MAS Youth Leaders

MAS Youth Boston offers a unique opportunity for college students to play the role of mentors and being a big brother/big sister to local teenagers. Muslim teenagers are often caught in a challenging struggle to try to “find their true self” and how to relate to Islam and the community around them. Often times, Muslim college students can play an important role in helping these teenagers answer fundamental questions.

MAS Youth Boston Teens committee offers various programs for local Muslim Teenagers. These programs are often initiated and run by MAS Youth Leaders who are usually local college students. Sample programs include:

• Halaqas for teenagers.
• A monthly outing.
• Special projects initiated and run by the MAS Youth leaders, such as:
  • Coaching in certain sports (soccer, basketball, karate)
  • Robotics training class (at MIT)
  • Cooking class
  • SAT preparation class offered to local students and to some local Muslim High schools

Most local Mosques, and most parents, find working with teenagers to be challenging since many of them go through a phase where they want to become more independent of their parents. College Students, who themselves recently have gone through this phase, have a natural ability to connect with the teenagers in a very positive and healthy way. In that sense, mentoring teens is a natural strength for the College Students. It also fills a wide gap and solves a major problem that our community has traditionally found to be most challenging.

The programs MYB Teens offers to the teenagers allow the College Students to interact with these teens in a natural way.  MYB offers special training sessions to the College Students in order to prepare them in their role as Youth Leaders.

Certified MAS Youth Leaders can then mentor the teenagers thru the many programs that MYB Teens offers. For more information, or if you have specific ideas on how you would like to help please email teens@masboston.org
