Quiam
The MYB College Students Quiam is a monthly program (2nd Saturday of each month). The purpose of the Quiam is to help us in our spiritual journey to Allah SWT. The program is open to brothers and sisters.
Amidst all the activities that we engage in, we must make time to nurture our spirit. We must continue to expose our hearts to Allah, and challenge our minds with Allah's revelation. We learn in the Hadith that the best time for this is the last third of the night.
Each Quiam has a theme, which we learn about through discussion and reflection. Themes in the past have been: sacrifice, love of the prophet (s.a.w.), reflection, reliance on Allah, yaqeen, loving Allah, Trust in Allah, etc. The program includes Quran reading, discussion on the verses, a short (20 min) talk, discussion about the topic, and free dinner. Then we go to sleep, wake up before fajr to pray the night prayer in jamaah (congregation) for about an hour and a half, with some reflections shared by one or two people in the middle, and then we pray fajr.
You are welcome to attend any part of the Quiam that you have time for.
The program is very spiritually enriching and uplifting, Islamically informative and much fun because you meet Muslims from different universities in the area and socialize. All in all, you get about 4 hours of sleep and if you come back home and sleep a couple more hours, it will only be about 10 in the morning and you will still have all of Sunday to work.
The Quiam Program is held at the Islamic Society of Boston, at 204 Prospect St, Cambridge, near Central Square. For more information please email college@masboston.org.
