Dear Farah,

Remember the camp that I told you about that was at the end of August?  You should have come, it was so good.  The set up wasn’t like MYNA or all of those conferences.  It was set up kind of like a school.  We had lectures in the morning and sports, free time, and sisterhood activities in the evening.  We also focused on one Surah and tried to go through it and really understand it as a group.  There were only about 20 girls so it made it so much easier to get to know everyone.  We were all split up into groups of about 6 and you do a lot of activities with them to get to know them better.

The lectures were also good.  The speakers included: Yasser Hadara, Imam Suhaib Webb, Dr. Jamal Badawi, and Dr. Soheil Ghanouchi.  All the speakers were very interactive and engaging.  The lecture topics were: Seerah, Gender Relations, Dawah, Usool-Fiqh, Purification of the Heart, and Purpose of Life.  I was especially interested in Seerah and hearing about all the companions.  This camp really causes you to think and figures out where you are with Islam right now and where you want to be.  It also helps you figure out how to get there.  Actually the people in the camp help also.  Our Amera, Eman, was great and very approachable.  I really enjoyed speaking with her and learning from her.  All the things that she had to say were extremely interesting and she was funny too.  The group leaders were also very fun to be with.  Aisha, our group leader, was awesome.  Since we had our own cabin, we really bonded together and had a lot of fun. The other girls were awesome too.  I can truly say that I love them all and that I’m very comfortable with them all also. I truly cannot wait till next year and do this all again.  I’ll talk to you later.

                                                                        Love,

                                                                        S.M.
