MAS Boston Public Sphere Internship
Purpose of Internship
The MAS Boston Public Sphere Internship Program seeks to provide opportunities for college and university students to gain skills and interest in careers in the public sphere which includes: public policy, law, media, social work, community development and public affairs.
Internship Description
Internship duties are tailored to take into account both the needs of the participating institution and the desires of the individual. Students typically work for an academic term (semester). MAS is willing to work with faculty and/or administrators on campus to assist interns to secure academic credit for their time.
The internships being offered for the spring 2009 semester are for positions working for city and state legislators located at Boston City Hall and at the Massachusetts State House.
Duties will vary, but may include conducting research, writing briefings for various events, writing summaries of bills, attending committee hearings and communicating with legislators, liaisons of state agencies, lobbyists, constituents and members of the general public. Specific duties vary, depending on intern assignments. A member of the legislative staff supervises the intern at all times.
Interns are required to give a brief weekly internship update to MAS Civic Engagement Organizer.
Duration of Internship
This is a spring semester internship (Jan—May 2008). Interns are required to work a minimum of 15 hours per week.

Qualifications
- Students from all majors are encouraged to apply but special consideration will be given to students with majors related to the following: public policy, law, media, social work, community development and public affairs.
· Student must exhibit responsible attitude and work habits
· Must be able to work at least 15 hours a week
· Must have good writing and communication skills
· Must be PC proficient
· Must have a 2.5 GPA
· Must be at least 18 years of age
